Super Car ; Prototype Jaguar F-Type

The Jaguar F-Type, due to be released as a 2014 model, will make its first public debut as a development prototype at the Goodwood Festival of Speed that kicks off on June 28. The all-aluminum two-seater convertible will be powered by either a supercharged V6 or V8 engine and is billed to produce in the neighborhood of 380 horsepower.

Mike Cross, Jaguar’s Head of car Integrity, will drive the car up Goodwood Hill during the festivities. The car is undergoing real-world testing ahead of its mid-2013 on-sale date. The carmaker’s Global Brand Director, Adrian Hallmark, said a production version of the car will be shown off later in 2012.

The car is based on the C-X16 concept shown off at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September of 2011. Back then, the concept had an electric powertrain that could be turned on by the driver to add nearly 100 horsepower and 173lb-ft of torque. The car will compete with the Porsche Boxster S, BMW Z4, and Audi TT-RS. Larger cars like the 911, M3, and C63 AMG offer more seats and power than Jaguar’s sports car.
